Lightning Bugs: A Poem
A poem dedicated to one of my favorite little creatures in my yard.
Lightning Bugs
I cup my hands around
your little body crawling
on my palm. I peak inside
my grasp and see your little
yellow body blinking. I open
my hands and watch you
fly back to the others,
shedding light on the
pitch black night,
dancing among the trees.
I know dusk is on its way
when I see you make
your way to the tree line
the golden lights make
the trees shimmer as if
they are covered in
glitter. But its more
beautiful than glitter
its lightning bugs on
a cool summer night.
I find comfort in
their warm light.
